Responses to Exhibit - Opening September 4th, 2015
- Meaningful displays. Life changing stories. Beautifully displayed and easy to absorb the emotions, hardships and journeys. Great displays and presentations, and a pleasure to attend the gallery show.
- I enjoyed looking at the project. I thought that the subject matter and the different artists interpretations of the women’s stories was very compelling. I like the pottery the best and the watercolours as well.
- Very powerful combination of the words of the drug users and the visual expression of the artists.
- Very interesting. Seeing the same “words” evoke different art forms was also interesting. It did so addictions is about pain not about the “badness” of individuals.
- This was an excellent reminder that addiction can strike anyone, that the forces of addiction are powerful and controlling and that we, as a society, need to show support and compassion to all who struggle. Thank you.
- It was a wonderfully informative talk about the exhibitions and the paintings really grabbed me (especially the crow and the wolf dog. The writing that went with the pictures were very real. I am so glad I forced myself out of my cocoon to come here. Thank you for your time.
- Beautiful + fascinating + startling! The art/photos/paintings are incredibly enhanced by the accompanying words. [____] that what you thought you were looking at and when you read the words. Fascinating! Thank you!
- Very interesting – phenomenal interpretations. “One day at a time”
- The exhibit is visually fascinating and very moving. I was arrested by some of the images/ text/ images + text. A wonderful exhibit – and nicely laid out.
- Thank you for your exceptional work, Dr. Sameshima. You are an inspiration to many with your grounded and important research. The coordination of your team developed the work into something even more ground-breaking. It was a pleasure to be here. Best wishes.
- Wonderful exhibit, Chrystal meth is a wicked drug to overcome, and her story was quite the story. Glad I came, wonderful paintings and displayed perfectly.
- I thoroughly enjoyed all of the different pieces. I especially enjoyed Victoria’s works, they were very insightful and thought provoking.
- Powerful images that help hit deeply about what this addiction means and who can be impacted by it.
- Very interesting . . . great to have something like this open to the public.
- So beautifully talented artists. Thank you for the unique display. Please keep this going in our city (Thunder Bay).
- Powerful, creative and insightful.
- All the series come wonderfully together to create a whole, from the despair of using to the [____] of recovery, having been a long time [recover]. The quotes [absorb] all, add thickness to the artistic renderings. What comes out of it is a person rather than a user and the stories behind that person. It is beautiful and at times made me feel like crying.
- This is a fabulous exhibit – would like to see a project where addicts actually do the art. Thank you so much.
- Greatness.
- Really important to connect arts with research and community. Engaging presentations and artworks. Congratulations!
- I truly did not know what to expect, but wow! The movies posters were especially powerful to me. Thank you.
- I am filling out this card as I do not want to become the subject of one of Victoria’s next series of media. Beautiful art.
- The exhibition was very helpful in giving a better idea of meth addiction and the recovery process of people who have never used. It gives a bit of a deeper understanding into the motivations and struggles of still-using and recovering drug addicts. The art was not only beautiful, but thought provoking, even with its focus on what is general a taboo/unsettling topic.
